Chefchaouen: FAQ

Merzouga is about 650 km from Chefchaouen. The route goes to Fes (4 hours), then through the Middle Atlas and Ziz Valley to the dunes (7 hours), so the desert is reached on the second day.
Five to seven days for Chefchaouen, Fes, a night at Merzouga, the Todra and Dades gorges and Marrakech. Tours can also run the other way, starting in Marrakech or Fes and ending in Chefchaouen.
From Fes or Tangier, yes: it is 4 hours from Fes and 2 hours from Tangier. From Marrakech or Casablanca it is too far for a day trip and is better added as a stop on a longer route.
At your hotel or riad in Chefchaouen, or at Tangier airport or port if you fly or sail in and want to start with the blue town.
A private, air-conditioned vehicle, an English-speaking driver-guide, accommodation for the full route including at least one night in a Sahara desert camp, and an itinerary built around what you actually want to see.
2–4 months ahead for peak season (October to April) gives you the best choice of desert camps. Off-season trips can often be booked with just a few weeks notice.
Yes — the desert routes we run are well established and our driver-guides know them well. You are never left alone; your guide stays with you for the full trip.
