Tanger desert tours: FAQ
Merzouga is about 800 km from Tangier. Tours drive south in stages: Tangier to Chefchaouen (2 hours), Chefchaouen to Fes (4 hours), then Fes to Merzouga (7 hours), so the dunes are usually reached on day 3.
Seven days is the standard route: Tangier, Chefchaouen, Fes, a night in the Merzouga desert camp, the Todra and Dades gorges, Ait Ben Haddou and Marrakech. Shorter trips from Tangier stop at Chefchaouen and Fes without reaching the Sahara.
Yes. The route runs one way north to south and ends in Marrakech, so you can fly out of Marrakech Menara Airport rather than driving back to Tangier.
At Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport, the ferry port, Tanger Ville train station or your hotel in the city.
A private, air-conditioned vehicle, an English-speaking driver-guide, accommodation for the full route including at least one night in a Sahara desert camp, and an itinerary built around what you actually want to see.
