How far is the desert from Ouarzazate?

Ouarzazate is the closest city to both big dune fields. Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) is about 360 km, or 5 hours, via the Dades and Todra gorges. Erg Chigaga is about 4 hours: 260 km of road to Mhamid through Zagora, then 1–2 hours of 4x4 track to the dunes.

How many days is a desert tour from Ouarzazate?

Two to three days. A 3-day tour from Ouarzazate reaches the dunes on the first day, gives you a full day in the desert, and returns through the Draa Valley or the gorges.

What is there to see around Ouarzazate itself?

The Taourirt Kasbah, the Atlas film studios, Ait Ben Haddou (a UNESCO site, 30 km away), the Skoura palm grove and the road of a thousand kasbahs towards the Dades Valley.

Do you pick up at Ouarzazate Airport?

Yes, at Ouarzazate Airport or your hotel in town. Tours can also end in Marrakech (4 hours over the Tizi n'Tichka pass) if that is where you fly out.

What's included on every tour?

How far in advance should I book?
